Oliver James is not registered with the HCPC, this can be checked at:
http://www.hpc-uk.org/check/
If he is presenting himself as a clinical psychologist, he is committing an offence:
http://www.hpc-uk.org/aboutregistration/protectedtitles/Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5841910768079015534.post-2128106124734123992013-05-27T14:08:22.267+01:002013-05-27T14:08:22.267+01:00People with mental illness are far more likely to ...People with mental illness are far more likely to experience adversity, familial or not. One obvious alternative causal pathway is genetic. Because of the genetic factors involved in schizophrenia, which are partly inherited from parents, people with schizophrenia have parents with psychoses, personality or behavioural disorders much more often than the base rate. They are therefore more likely to have experienced various forms of adversity. But only genetically sensitive designs can tell to what extent the adversity-schizophrenia association is mediated genetically, and to what extent it is mediated socially.Franck Ramushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02656240693713885894noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5841910768079015534.post-46215000806581440782013-05-26T23:12:52.295+01:002013-05-26T23:12:52.295+01:00Good post. I note that sex abuse is now seen, both in popular thought and in parts of the psychology world, as a powerful source of later mental disorder, but the methodological problems are considerable, and the categories and severities of the experiences are often poorly defined.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09320614837348759094noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5841910768079015534.post-3695305805231921062013-05-26T17:03:11.683+01:002013-05-26T17:03:11.683+01:00And these assertions are reinforced by disconcerti...And these assertions are reinforced by disconcertingly common psycho-social models of child development (especially prevalent in public policy) that marginalise biological factors.
