We launched early 2013 and have a scientist-friendly submission system, and a unique peer review model where referee comments and names are published alongside the article as they come in (and papers are published prior to passing peer review) http://f1000research.com/aboutEva Amsenhttp://f1000research.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5841910768079015534.post-60111531611998788352014-01-06T11:56:16.847+00:002014-01-06T11:56:16.847+00:00This makes sense ONCE THE PAPER IS ACCEPTED, when ...This makes sense ONCE THE PAPER IS ACCEPTED, when it needs to be typeset. But not at the point of initial submission, when the paper's fate is undecided: it may well be rejected, and if not, it will certainly require revision. And meanwhile, you have referees tearing their hair out trying to link up the text, the Figures and their captions. academic journalLewis n Clarkhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13257707224216876504noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5841910768079015534.post-29087178366372448182014-01-05T06:13:36.793+00:002014-01-05T06:13:36.793+00:00Elsevier’s David Tempest explaining subscription-c...Elsevier’s David Tempest explaining subscription-contract confidentiality clauses makes interesting viewing - check:
http://svpow.com/2013/12/20/elseviers-david-tempest-explains-subscription-contract-confidentiality-clauses/
Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5841910768079015534.post-86306308904859603262014-01-04T15:34:20.846+00:002014-01-04T15:34:20.846+00:00I couldn't agree more.

My recent experience as an author with peerj.com and hindawi.com has been excellent. A simple, streamlined submission process that only required simple author details, a single document manuscript and straightforward referee recommendation process. In both cases it was over so quickly that i was left in a daze wondering if had missed a dozen steps somewhere.

Just highlights how unfriendly, inefficient and anachronistic the traditional process is.
