I think we, in Canada, went through them in the 1950's and 60's but I really know nothing about primary education any more. For all I know, the wars may be heating up again.<br /><br />I did hear that my province is planning a revision of the Math curriculum <i>again</i>.<br /><br />Re phonics, I was a "whole word" learner to which my mother a former primary school teacher attributed my atrocious spelling. <br /><br />Of course English spelling seems to me to be so irrational that I wonder that even good phonics training can help much. I am beginning to think that English is one step form ideograms.
