I had wondered about this years ago, and there seemed to be no agreement as to what the figures were. This is relevant if one looks at "where the money is coming from" for future science funding.James Thompsonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02151311310188410576noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5841910768079015534.post-12289734314859210602019-08-11T08:29:33.572+01:002019-08-11T08:29:33.572+01:00It didn't come up. The nonsense of 'pathways to impact' statements and Gantt charts documenting progress to goals for people doing fundamental mathematics was noted. I dare say Cummings would be happy to ditch REF, but I'd worry that he'd substitute a mechanism for research funding that just allowed government to disburse funds direct to universities for pet projects. Never thought I'd be defending REF, but I think we do need the kind of buffer between government and universities inherent in the Haldane Principle - albeit with a less onerous method for allocating funds. <br />deevybeehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15118040887173718391noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5841910768079015534.post-44601010683579825282019-08-10T22:18:29.940+01:002019-08-10T22:18:29.940+01:00Did anyone mention REF as stifling risky, innovati...Did anyone mention REF as stifling risky, innovative, interdisciplinary research?jon.mayhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02785548135187338314noreply@blogger.com
