Like so many of these designations, it is totally opaque whether it indicates that he is still active in editorial decisions, but I would guess not, in which case this would be in a rather different category. More generally, as far as I could see none of the other prolific authors in this journal are associate editors/editor-in-chief. deevybeehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15118040887173718391noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5841910768079015534.post-69253848277559194782020-08-23T11:22:49.369+01:002020-08-23T11:22:49.369+01:00You might want to check out the journal "Euro...You might want to check out the journal "European Urology" and its editor, Francesco Montorsi, for another example of PEPIOPSAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5841910768079015534.post-83705247755017502462020-08-23T07:05:56.729+01:002020-08-23T07:05:56.729+01:00I'm sure it would, but I do have a day job. This illustrates the problem I was having when thinking to do the same kind of analysis as you did: a lot of work has to be manually done to check when EiC took that duty.

Furthermore, several people have mentioned to me that if the field is too small then the EiC would suffer if they don't publish in own journal. I have some sympathies for that argument; however, I believe the same fact (small field) should be a reason to limit the time EiC can hold that position.

So if someone is going to use that argument (small field) as an 'excuse' that they 'must' publish in own journal, then the same argument (small field) should be used to restrict the power one person has in the same field.

In my view, it is unacceptable that one person has such a big influence in a small field. Even if AAP now has another co-editor (the mentioned HH), it doesn't change the fact that Abdel-Aty has been EiC since July 2013. He has been shaping this small field for more than seven years and continues to do that. While publishing more than 10 research (!) articles in own journal...
